There's nothing more irritating than having your hair fall in your face right in the middle of a good sweat session! Thankfully, there are plenty of easy and stylish 'dos that will keep your hair secure while working out.
Try these three easy, stylish workout hairstyles for your next gym sesh.
Sleek, Wrapped Pony
For workout hair that looks great – and stays exactly where you want it – you can never go wrong with a sleek ponytail. This style doesn’t just make you look stylish, sexy, and red carpet ready - it’s also great for any workout! Whether you’re doing a set of jumping jacks or you're working on those abs, you won’t have to worry about your hairstyle falling apart.
This style takes just a few minutes and will never let you down. To start, brush through your hair to get rid of any tangles. Try using Paul Mitchell Lite Detangler and a detangling comb. Once your hair is tangle free, smooth your hair back using a small amount of gel along the sides (which will give you that super sleek look!). Pull your hair into a ponytail and tie with a hair elastic.
For an amped-up pony, wrap a small section of hair from the ponytail around the elastic to hide it. Clip or bobby pin it under the ponytail to keep it in place.
The Ballerina Bun
Channel your inner ballerina with a workout-worthy messy ballerina bun.
Pull your hair into a regular ponytail and secure on top of your head. You can go for a sleek or messy pony, whichever you prefer. Wrap the pony into a bun shape, then secure with multiple elastics to keep in place. Use bobby pins and hairspray as needed.
If you’re breaking a sweat outdoors, use Sun Recovery Hydration Shampoo by Paul Mitchell after you finish your workout. This will keep your hair healthy, shiny and protect it from UV rays.
Another version of the ballerina bun? Style your hair in a low ponytail and wrap the pony around for a bun on the nape of your neck. A top knot also works great for high-intensity workouts. Just make sure the style you choose is fastened properly with elastics and bobby pins before you work up a sweat.
The Crown or Halo Braid
Braids are always cute…but they’re also great for working out! They can keep your hair back and out of the way. Plus, the right braided style can be even more secure than a ponytail or a bun. Just look at the crown braid! This style is clearly gorgeous but it’s also perfect for long or intense workouts. Are you training for a half marathon? Doing high intensity intervals? This is the style for you!
To create your own crown braid (non French braid-style), start by working Paul Mitchell Thickening Glue XTG through your ends for extra hold and texture. Then part your hair straight down the middle. Take one side of hair and separate it into three smaller sections. Braid it tightly starting from the base of your neck. As you braid, braid upward, pull the hair away from your face. Tie the end with a hair elastic. Next up? Braid the other side of hair. This time, start braiding from the top of the scalp instead of the base of the neck. Continue to braid until you’ve run out of hair. Don't forget to tie the end!
Finish it all off by wrapping the braided sections around your head to create a crown shape. Pin in place with bobby pins. You’ll be left with unforgettable hair that is both beautiful and sturdy.
