5 Salons that are Doing it Right

Last Friday, I had the pleasure of attending a class at Studio 49 Fitness with Danielle McDowell and fellow beauty blogger, Morgan Wright. Not only was the class amazing, but we also got to hear some great stories from some of the other girls about their favorite hairstylists and products!

Now I am a born and raised Hoosier and I have noticed that since I’ve been interested in hair (since I was about 13) that there has been a consistent trend of salons that are being talked about in Indianapolis or surrounding areas. I decided that I would dig a little deeper and see what it is about these salons that make people keep coming back.

Salon 01 – Carmel

Now, as you’ve probably noticed, I’m a bit biased due to the fact that I worked here for many years. But in all honesty, they deserve the recognition that they receive. They have an excellent education program, starting every stylist out as an apprentice. This gives them the foundational skills that are necessary to be a consistent and great stylist. Aside from that, they also have a blowout bar where clients can come in quickly if they need a style for the night or a special event. They’re especially well known for their bridal services! They have a great boutique area with amazing clothes, purses, and jewelry and even have their own product line! Really, it is a one-stop shop for all of your beauty needs: hair, skin, nails and massage services. Haircuts start at $27.

Bobby Cooper – Broad Ripple

One of the girls that attended the class talked about how she won’t go to anyone else besides Gracie because she gives “the best blowouts!” Bobby Cooper is a salon that I have heard about since I was in cosmetology school and it continues to be talked about around town. Located in an adorable building right in the heart of Broad Ripple, it beckons you to come see what’s inside! Their stylists have styled hair for New York Fashion Week, are an Intercoiffure salon (the most prestigious hair/business organization in the world) and have had their work featured in publications. Haircuts start at $45.

D.L Lowry – Nora and Broad Ripple

DL Lowry also has an extensive education system in place, having new stylists participate in an apprentice program before they are able to work on clients. They bring in some of the best stylists in the state and they have a very high retention rate. That says a lot in an industry where retention rates are among the lowest. They are also known for their great bridal styles and have been featured in many salon publications. Haircuts start at $50.

Salon 6 – Broad Ripple

Salon 6 is always participating in community events around Indianapolis, donating their time and talents to help others. They also have a great education program and some of their stylists have been voted the best in Indy. They have over 100 positive reviews on their site. Now that’s something to brag about! Haircuts start at $35.

He Does Hair – Broad Ripple

Todd Shrider is one of the best stylists in the city, and his work definitely speaks for itself. His salon is a boutique salon, so this provides a very personal experience for the client. He participates in a ton of photoshoots around town and promotes himself very well across all social platforms. He has trained with some of the best in the business and worked in the tech industry in his "former life." So he truly has a unique approach to the art of hair. Haircuts start at $55.
