Floral Trend for Spring

This morning when I opened the door to let my dogs out they immediately turned around and went back upstairs to hop in bed. That is never a good sign, so I opened my weather app to assess the damage. 7 degrees!?! Seriously?!?

Since moving to Hawaii is not in my budget I am going to do the next best thing: warm up my wardrobe with some flirty and feminine florals instead. Not only will I be getting a head start on one of the hottest trends for spring, the bright colors and pretty patterns seem to do wonders for beating the winter time blues.

Here are the looks that I am most excited to try:

Nails

I have never been much of a risk taker when it comes to nail art, but when I saw this floral pattern I knew it was the perfect time to organize a manicure party for my next girls night in. In order to nail this, well, nail, keep in mind these two simple rules: invite only your most artistically inclined friends, and keep the wine away until those flowers are finished.

Short on friends with a creative eye and steady hand? No problem. Take a simpler approach to your homage to flowers and stick with a pink hue instead. My personal favorite is this bright shade of fuchsia, which is one of the hottest colors of 2013.

Hair

Whimsical is the look you will want to go for when using floral accessories in your hair. Taylor Swift decided to try a different take on the headband by placing the flower under her updo. The soft curls on top, hopefully done without heat, add to the overall feeling of going natural. Don't have long hair like Taylor and worried that you can't pull together this look? Don't be. There are plenty of options for those of you with shorter locks.

Over the holidays we loved trying out the rose twirl for an easy way to glam up our look, but for spring we are wanting to let loose and do something more carefree. Blake Lively's side swept half-updo with a braid and gold flower clip is the exact way to pull off messy chic, a key look for spring. Don't forget that this style is best with second day hair.

One of the biggest trends for spring that we are loving are colorful bandanas. Take a floral print and pair it with a sexy top knot and you are all set for wherever the day takes you.

Wardrobe

When Lucy Liu arrived to the 2013 Golden Globes last week, it proved that the floral trend was without a doubt here for the year. For something less black tie and more night out on the town, take a cue from Kerry Washington and go with a belted skirt and sexy top. I love that Kerry spiced things up a bit by choosing to use leather for her sleeveless top. But if there was one thing I could change about her look I would have chosen to add a sleek ponytail with a leather wrap for her hairstyle.

This floral dress by Honor is a stunning example of how the bow has transitioned into adulthood. Throw on a fitted blazer and this sheer dress instantly becomes an easy way to give a nod to spring despite not having the spring weather.

Wild child Rihanna is consistently blazing the way for todays hottest trends. First it was her bright red hair, which is shaping up to be one of the hottest hair colors for 2013, and now she has done it again with not only the floral ensemble, but matching the color of her lips to the color of her polish, and sporting the stiletto nail. While she is definitely a tough one to keep up with, trying always proves to be fun.

I don't know about you, but I feel warmer already, so now the only thing left to do is figure out how to keep that groundhog from seeing his shadow!

For the love of springtime,

Courtney
