Is there a high school event that's better than homecoming? It's by far the most fun and laid back of all the high school dances, so why not transition that spirited mindset into your hair? This is the time to have fun with it! Try a look you wouldn't dream of for prom or another big event. Here are styles we are loving for this year.
Tease it UP! Go big or go home! An easy way to take your style to the next level is teasing. As far as DIY styling, teasing is simple and quick. (Best of all, it's easy to take down at the end of the evening! Is there anything worse than sleeping on a head full of bobby pins?!) Try teasing your ponytail or even a style that's worn completely down. For a look like ScarJo's above, add a headband. For a tutorial on proper teasing, click here.
Smooth Moves: Go the opposite route and try super sleek strands instead. This style works on all hair lengths and can be easily played up with accessories. Start with squeaky clean hair that has been deep conditioned. After blow drying, apply a heat protectant before picking up your straightener.
Let's Twist Again: Want to be the boldest babe in the room? A Senegalese twist style will take you there! Senegalese twists are the perfect starting point for countless chic styles. Try wearing your twists to the side or pulling them up into an updo. Updos will be your best bet for staying cool while sweating it out on the dance floor with your best girls (who cares where your date is?).
Boho Braided Babe: Who says braids are reserved for summer? Not us. Braids are easy to dress up (like these braided updos) or worn casually. If you're more of a free spirit, try a waterfall braid or halo braid like the one shown above. Get the look at home using this tutorial.
Pump Up That Pixie: Thanks to Miley and Beyonce (though briefly!), pixies are more popular than ever. Take your short cut from "every day" to "ahhhhmazing" by adding volume at the crown while playing up whispy bangs. Go extra glam by adding a bold earring (one of Pink's signature style moves!)
Wavy Lady: Though fall is here, there is no need to leave beach-inspired waves behind. Thanks to Karlie Kloss' oh-so-fabulous bob, pairing shorter locks with waves is a style everyone is lusting after. Depending on your hair texture and the type of wave you want, you may need to use a curling wand (especially for those of you with stick straight hair). This tutorial breaks it down for you.
Go Gatsby: Though it's been a few months since the outbreak of Great Gatsby fever, Taylor Swift brought this trend back to the forefront. Her stunning style at last month's VMAs combines both finger waves and a faux bob. Warning: this is not a look for beginners. To really recreate this style, head straight to your stylist!
The Classic: So maybe bold isn't your thing. Neither is beachy or boho. There's always room on the dance floor for a classic updo! This soft style is soft and pretty without being uptight. The best part? It will still look gorg even if a few strands fall down around your ears and neckline.
