Curly hair is not like straight hair. Repeat that out loud. Curly hair is not like straight hair. The way you care for your curls needs to be a different process – follow a few of my hair care tips below to keep your curls looking beautiful this winter:
1. Stop washing your hair! – Ok, not literally but you’re probably washing your hair too often if you have naturally curly hair. Once you find a frizz-taming shampoo that you love, you should only be washing your hair one to two times a week. Washing your hair makes it much harder to tame frizz and keep your locks defined so be sure to plan out your shampooing schedule for styling throughout the week.
2. Know your curl type – Not all curly hair is created equal. There are many different types of curly hair and knowing how to maintain the ph balance in your distinctive curls is important. Some curls mesh well with gels and crèmes rather than oils and serums. Do your research to determine what category of pretty curls you have.
3. Use a deep conditioner – Everyone with curly hair knows that locking in moisture is essential for maintaining the vibrancy of curls throughout the day. Be sure to use a deep conditioner at least 2 or 3 times a month, there are a lot of amazing products out there. You can use leave-in conditioners or hair masks throughout the week if you don’t love a deep conditioner.
4. Detangle – When you sleep on your curls, wash your curls, style your curls, whatever you do to your curls, they are going to get tangled. I recommend using your fingers in the shower after a conditioner to eliminate pulling too much on your damp hair. Detangling your curls is super important for maintaining shape and eliminating frizz.
What are your rules for curly hair?
