As I’ve mentioned before, I am hairstylistically challenged. 99% of the time I try out a complex hairdo I see on a red carpet, it quickly becomes a hairdon’t.
Recently on the runways, I’ve seen a shift from minimal fashion to embellishments and excess. In order to avoid an overloaded Dynasty look, simple, messy hair completes these over-the-top looks the best.
One of my favorite spring hair trends is the undone updo, either in bun or ponytail form. As seen on runways like Balmain and Bottega Veneta, celebrities have also flocked to this unfussy style for their red carpet looks.
At The Croods premiere, Blake Lively demonstrated how a slightly messy ponytail tones down a body-con minidress for a sexy look that’s still fresh.
Paired with trendy brick red lips and a formal gown like Claire Danes at the SAG awards, an undone updo keeps the look relaxed and modern.
Alexa Chung (shown above) looked flirty and youthful at the Grammys, with messy hair and bright red lips. Also at the Grammys, Florence Welch lightened up her severe Givenchy gown with an undone hair look.
If you are dying to try some of the riskier, embellished looks from the runway, pair them with an undone updo. Not only will you take less time to get ready, you won’t look like a fashion faux pas. Messy, modern hair is the best accessory for a runway ready look this spring.
